I’m a digital strategist with about 5 years in PR, design and advertising. I started off as a corporate lawyer so I’ve got a different perspective from most digital planners. I’ve always wanted to write a book, but I’m torn between a more commercial book like “101 tips on B2B Social Media” or more of a manifesto like “Birth of the Authentic Company”. Which will help me more when it comes time to slot back into an agency?
Dear Digital Guru,
Employers are generally impressed at the effort it takes to publish, even a well subscribed blog. If you feel like you have something to say, you should say it.
These title options sound like two completely different topics. So maybe you have more than one book in you. There is certainly a lot of discussion on social media as well as corporate moral purpose. Pick the one you are more passionate about.
One thing I can tell you is it would be worth the time to get some of your creative mates in PR, design and advertising to help with the book cover and layout. It can make a huge difference. So can a catchy title. Avoid any puns using Madmen, 50 shades, or anything that sounds like an iTitle.
You can ask Esther Clerehan anything about putting your book together, getting a job, what salary to ask for or what to do when someone steals your ideas. Go on, Ask Esther.
