If there’s one piece of advice you should listen to it’s this.
Hawk a folio around for long enough and pretty you’ll soon be overwhelmed with advice and opinion.
Some of it similar, but much of it wildly differing and inconsistent.
This is where it gets tricky for young people.
Such and such says I should do this. But what’s-his-name says I should do something else.
So what should you do?
That’s easy. Do what you think is right.
Problem is that’s easier said than done. So my advice is put the advice and opinion in context.
Is the person giving it to you someone you admire? Is it someone who has created something you wish you had done? If it is, then listen to them and act on their advice.
If it’s someone in a position of seniority, who is good at their job but not someone you’d love to work with, then listen to their advice, but if you don’t completely agree with it then don’t act on it.
Of course this approach isn’t 100% accurate. But it’s pretty damn close.Tweet
