Legendary advertising figure Leo Burnett once said that curiosity about all aspects of life was the secret to being a great creative.
Far too many young people I come across think that the secret to doing great creative work is looking at award winning creative work.
By all means study that work for insights into how to think bigger and make your work better.
But to create something truly original and fresh, I recommend you heed Mr Burnett’s advice.
Read about topics that are unfamiliar to you. If you don’t like sport go to a football match. If you’re one of those people that only watches art house or indie films, go see a blockbuster or two. Even better go see a kids’ film.
Get out of your comfort zone and get curious. Because the more curious you become, the more creative you will be.
