    Junior Event // 19

Junior last Wednesday was pretty rad. We had Jason Ross – the Executive Creative Director of CHE (http://www NULL.che NULL.com NULL.au/) give us 8 tips in 8 minutes, at the grand ol’ time of 8pm. According to the Chinese, the number 8 (http://www NULL.beijingmadeeasy NULL.com/beijing-society/china-lucky-numbers) is as lucky as it gets. So if you happened to find yourself there, be sure to think of yourself as one of the lucky ones.

It’s also pretty darn lucky we filmed the whole thing just in case you missed it.

“Blow your wad in the first paragraph.”

That was Jo Walker from Frankie (http://frankie NULL.com NULL.au)‘s opening tip. So we just did.

    Here are some photos.

    Junior Event // 17 // Sydney

‘FINALLY!’ We hear you say – ‘Junior events in Sydney’. Yes that’s right, we finally got shit together. And since we kept y’all waiting so long – we got two of the most awarded creatives in the country – Matty Burton and Cam Blackley, Creative Directors at Droga5 (http://droga5 NULL.com NULL.au) to give their 10 tips. But don’t worry if you missed it, it’ll be appearing as an episode of JuniorTV (http://vimeo NULL.com/user2421636) soon.

The next Junior event is in Melbourne on June 16 at the Workers Club (http://theworkersclub NULL.com NULL.au/) in Fitzroy. Guest speaker: Jo Walker, editor at Frankie (http://www NULL.frankie NULL.com NULL.au/) magazine.

Here at Junior we love the Internet as much as the next gaggle of square-eyed RSS-fiends, but compared to real-life, it sucks giant pear-shaped balls. You may be able to fly from tab to tab making click-leaps from Copenhagen to New York and back home again, but can you high-five new acquaintances over a beer in an authentic and hip warehouse space?

No! You can’t! Oh and don’t you devil’s advocate me Mr. Naysaying-Web-2.0-changing-the-face-of-communication-magee. I know your type and you’re wrong.

And that, our favourite bunch of blog-reading creatives, was an incredibly badly written and verbose introduction with the sole intent to convince you to come along to our Junior events, because the Internet never beats real-life.

At last April’s 10 tips in 10 minutes event, kids were sitting on the bar, some were hanging from the ceiling, most were sitting comfortably on chairs, but some weren’t, so yeah. What we mean to say is, ‘it was packed!’

Everyone was there to see Ghostpatrol (http://ghostpatrol NULL.net/)–illustrator, chilled bro, artist–speak about his life and times. Our favourite new JuniorTV cinematographer Louis Mitchell captured it all on film. Enjoy.

Junior Event // Art & Copy

It feels great when people show up to the things you put on. We didn’t really ask anyone to come to our inaugural Junior Film Festival last Monday night; we never pleaded or begged or employed henchmen to break knees. Normal, everyday folk, much like you, just started buying tickets until it was sold-out — which probably had more to do with the fact we were screening the seminal documentary, Art & Copy (http://www NULL.artandcopyfilm NULL.com/), than anything remotely associated to us personally. You know, cause just like any troubled human, we hinge our personal worth on the amount of people interested in the things we do.

Then we were going to give free tickets away to our friends, but because it was sold-out, we couldn’t. Then they got reeeeaaal angry. They said, “But you told us you’d give us free tickets!” So we said to our friends, “We’re really, really sorry, but you should have bought a ticket in the first place you cheap, unsupportive inconsiderates.”

Anyway, don’t listen to our neurotic tripe, quite frankly it’s surprising you’ve read this far. And if you have, thanks, we need all the friends we can get after the free-ticket fiasco of 2k10.

The night was a huge success, blah blah blah, Junior goes from strength to strength, lots of people came, press releasey hoo-hah, floop-dy floop-dy doo.

And the whole thing could never have happened without the unending support of AJF Partnership (http://www NULL.ajfpartnership NULL.com NULL.au/), XYZ Studios (http://xyzstudios NULL.com/), and Campaign Brief (http://campaignbrief NULL.com/) — all of which we used and abused for our own gain. We really hope tacking your logos onto things makes you lots and lots of money.

Sometimes a room fills with incredibly creative people and you can’t help but smile. That’s how we felt last Wednesday when Ghostpatrol (http://ghostpatrol NULL.net/) gave his ten tips in, well, a few more than ten minutes. But we were secretly glad it was a little longer — there was something about his chilled demeanor, humility and beautiful illustrations that inspired everyone on a really deep level. Yeah! See what you missed out on! Everyone had a blast, and we transcended spiritually. Can’t get much more inspirational than that.

Junior Film Festival // Art & Copy

Listen up! We’re having our very own Junior Film Festival. Sounds kinda neat doesn’t it? But as you would expect from us, there’s a twist. There’s only one film. And it’s only one night. We just called it a festival to get your attention. Ha! There. Now we have it. Let’s continue!

The film is called Art & Copy — an incredible documentary that profiles several living icons of the U.S advertising industry since the ’60s. People like George Lois, Dan Weiden and Lee Clow.

If you’re keen for that sort of thing, we’ve got a three step process for you to follow:

    1. Watch the trailer below

    2. Click the ‘Buy Now’ button

    3. Tell all your friends

Now, these steps don’t have to be done in that order. Instead you could buy tickets for all your friends, watch the trailer, and hope like hell that you’re getting what you’ve paid for. Which you will, of course, because we wouldn’t lie.

You’ll just have to trust us — this movie is a must-see for all creative people.

Want to know more about Art & Copy? Click here (http://artandcopyfilm NULL.com/).

    When: Monday, 26 April

    Time: 7pm pre-drinks for 7.30pm screening

Where: Kino Cinema – 45 Collins Street, Melbourne

    Tickets: $17.00

    SOLD OUT!

Once you’ve bought your tickets online, please print your paypal receipt and bring it on the night.

    JuniorTV // 03

If you live in Sydney, Brisbane, somewhere else, or are just another lazy Melbourne shimshom, you definitely missed out on a great March Junior event. The throngs of good-looking Junior patrons were treated to a particularly interesting speaker in Barrie Barton–one of the talented few behind Right Angle Studio (http://rightanglestudio NULL.com NULL.au/), The Thousands City Guides (http://thethousands NULL.com NULL.au/), and Rooftop Cinema (http://rooftopcinema NULL.com NULL.au/). Lucky for you shimshoms, we recorded it onto a viewable video platform exportable to vimeo, which sits below in five minutes of well-edited glory. Once again, our favourite web-for-video specialist Jonathan Lim (http://www NULL.attheteaparty NULL.com/) was the culprit, and what a great culprit he is.

    Junior Event // 15

We’re a bit lacking on the event photos this month. Unfortunately for you, Barrie Barton (http://rightanglestudio NULL.com NULL.au/)‘s tips were too engaging for our photographer monkey to take many photos. But we did manage to snap one of this new fandangled stationery moustache-esque accessory — thanks Notemaker & O-Check (http://notemaker NULL.com NULL.au/collections/o-check-store-at-notemaker-australia-new-zealand)! If you accidentally missed Junior this month, no fear! Stay tuned for JuniorTV’s recap of BB’s 10 tips – coming soon.

    Junior Event // 14

Another brilliant Junior event is done, full of incredibly social and interested young awesomes. Andrew Ashton of Studio Pip & Co (http://peoplethings NULL.com/) was an even awesome-er older awesome — he ignored our brief, and told us stories of what inspired him to work. We also got our act together and filmed the thing, so if you missed it you can see it on a screen near you once we’ve edited it up all nice. In the meantime, look at all these kids attentively listening! It’s like a classroom full of learning.
