Hilary Sloane mastered our cover this month — a RMIT Grad who works part time, and gets to spend the rest of her days on her own projects without those pesky clients. She’s got a bedroom floor with collaging materials all over it, and wants to make rad animated GIFs out of collage-able stuff in the future. AND! She listens to Alanis Morrisette! Knits beanies! Etc! Extra fun all around.

Well, we haven’t had one of these for a while. Our stereo is a little lacking in sounds, so we thought yours might be too. And! We have a new mix-tape pair extraordinaire! We lost our previous lad (he’s off doing super cool things in Denver, Colorado), so Comeback Kid are helping us belt out the beats.

Matt Hall has spent his years since graduating in Multimedia very productively. He’s worked in Philly for a TV station, at various design spots around Melbourne, and after working in New York City for an art magazine, he’s come back — and started his own agency, Ideo Design. Woo! That’s what we want to see you juniors doing!

Luci Everett is a bit of a spruce-moose. We’re not sure what that means, but it rhymes with Luce. Moosey, uh, Luci — as a freelance graphic designer in Melbourne — spends her time coming up with creative words, designing for the music and fashion worlds,  and pulling crazy dance moves. She’s a winner!

Dan Gray is our junior superstar this month. Going by the moniker Little Gonzales, Dan switched over from a medical science background, to a freelance illustration career in Sydney — where he spends his time designing with bright colours and strange characters reminiscent of childhoods past. And! He’s a member of The Groop, has designed for Mambo, Amelia’s Magazine, Graniph & Dappled Cities. He was also shortlisted for the Qantas SOYA awards in the Visual Communication category. Ps! Random facts: Dan is triplet, who is currently working on a musical puzzle book. Fun!

We think she’s of the uber McFunky variety too — she gave us three variations of a cover! We were bamboozled by the stand-out Junior effort.

This month’s cover is by Tessa Chong — a bright young thing who is an amazingly rad illustrator, and art director. Currently based in Melbourne, she’s illustrating up some super cool campaigns. We may be privy to top secret information that one day Tessa wants to write an award winning HBO series. But until then she’s available for a touch of moonlighting – coincidentally, much like this HBO character. The suckiest part of this story is that Tessa’s website is in the works, which means you don’t get to see the extent of her talent, or call her for any moonlighting requests. Lame! This month’s cover is by BenZen — a young illustrator from Melbourne. When we first started Junior we had no idea who Ben was, but then he started coming to every event we had and we become best buds. His illustrations capture the innate whimsy and beauty of his highly-developed imagination, most of which you can see on his website. This however is not so remarkable given his genuine nature and sweet disposition — that you’re missing the hell out on cause you never come to Junior events, Slacky McSlack-slack.

Dear troglodytes, philandering filibusters, friends, foes, and fusspots,

We hear you. It is getting a tad boring around these parts. Interview after interview, whip after whip — why wouldn’t you scream in united togetherness, “When are you going to do something new!? Something bold!? Something we can use?! Something with pictures for chrissakes!?”

Yes! By joe, we agree! It’s a fair statement. And one we’d like to duely acknowledge.

So please, as a gesture of our commitment to you, our dearly beloved readership, take this new feature — The Junior Mixtape — and be on your way. Just be sure to use it wisely.

The wise uses of the Junior Mixtape:

a) Headphones, tea, and thirty minutes worth of brain-melting work to be done;

b) A project to finish, procrastination sets in — turn up the volume, dance about the room, and summon the energy demon from your inner soul;
