    Junior Event // 19

Junior last Wednesday was pretty rad. We had Jason Ross – the Executive Creative Director of CHE (http://www NULL.che NULL.com NULL.au/) give us 8 tips in 8 minutes, at the grand ol’ time of 8pm. According to the Chinese, the number 8 (http://www NULL.beijingmadeeasy NULL.com/beijing-society/china-lucky-numbers) is as lucky as it gets. So if you happened to find yourself there, be sure to think of yourself as one of the lucky ones.

It’s also pretty darn lucky we filmed the whole thing just in case you missed it.

“Blow your wad in the first paragraph.”

That was Jo Walker from Frankie (http://frankie NULL.com NULL.au)‘s opening tip. So we just did.

    Here are some photos.

‘FINALLY!’ We hear you say – ‘Junior events in Sydney’. Yes that’s right, we finally got shit together. But don’t worry if you missed it, it’ll be appearing as an episode of JuniorTV (http://vimeo NULL.com/user2421636) soon.

The next Junior event is in Melbourne on June 16 at the Workers Club (http://theworkersclub NULL.com NULL.au/) in Fitzroy. Guest speaker: Jo Walker, editor at Frankie (http://www NULL.frankie NULL.com NULL.au/) magazine.

Junior Event // Art & Copy

It feels great when people show up to the things you put on. We didn’t really ask anyone to come to our inaugural Junior Film Festival last Monday night; we never pleaded or begged or employed henchmen to break knees. Normal, everyday folk, much like you, just started buying tickets until it was sold-out — which probably had more to do with the fact we were screening the seminal documentary, Art & Copy (http://www NULL.artandcopyfilm NULL.com/), than anything remotely associated to us personally. You know, cause just like any troubled human, we hinge our personal worth on the amount of people interested in the things we do.

Then we were going to give free tickets away to our friends, but because it was sold-out, we couldn’t. Then they got reeeeaaal angry. They said, “But you told us you’d give us free tickets!” So we said to our friends, “We’re really, really sorry, but you should have bought a ticket in the first place you cheap, unsupportive inconsiderates.”

Anyway, don’t listen to our neurotic tripe, quite frankly it’s surprising you’ve read this far. And if you have, thanks, we need all the friends we can get after the free-ticket fiasco of 2k10.

The night was a huge success, blah blah blah, Junior goes from strength to strength, lots of people came, press releasey hoo-hah, floop-dy floop-dy doo.

And the whole thing could never have happened without the unending support of AJF Partnership (http://www NULL.ajfpartnership NULL.com NULL.au/), XYZ Studios (http://xyzstudios NULL.com/), and Campaign Brief (http://campaignbrief NULL.com/) — all of which we used and abused for our own gain. We really hope tacking your logos onto things makes you lots and lots of money.

Sometimes a room fills with incredibly creative people and you can’t help but smile. That’s how we felt last Wednesday when Ghostpatrol (http://ghostpatrol NULL.net/) gave his ten tips in, well, a few more than ten minutes. But we were secretly glad it was a little longer — there was something about his chilled demeanor, humility and beautiful illustrations that inspired everyone on a really deep level. Yeah! See what you missed out on! Everyone had a blast, and we transcended spiritually. Can’t get much more inspirational than that.

We’re a bit lacking on the event photos this month. Unfortunately for you, Barrie Barton (http://rightanglestudio NULL.com NULL.au/)‘s tips were too engaging for our photographer monkey to take many photos. But we did manage to snap one of this new fandangled stationery moustache-esque accessory — thanks Notemaker & O-Check (http://notemaker NULL.com NULL.au/collections/o-check-store-at-notemaker-australia-new-zealand)! If you accidentally missed Junior this month, no fear! Stay tuned for JuniorTV’s recap of BB’s 10 tips – coming soon.

Another brilliant Junior event is done, full of incredibly social and interested young awesomes. Andrew Ashton of Studio Pip & Co (http://peoplethings NULL.com/) was an even awesome-er older awesome — he ignored our brief, and told us stories of what inspired him to work. We also got our act together and filmed the thing, so if you missed it you can see it on a screen near you once we’ve edited it up all nice. In the meantime, look at all these kids attentively listening! It’s like a classroom full of learning.

    Junior Event // Xmas Party

    16-12-09/01

And so it was, on a night of heat and exhaustion, that friends of Junior & Co. gathered for one final time in 2009. There was beer and conversation and pretty people with pretty smiles. Everyone was stirring and gosh were they nice. In fact, it’s definitely safe to say we forced the yuletide out of the closet to announce it’s homosexuality. It was a very gay evening indeed.

Thanks to everybody who has supported us this year, we couldn’t have done it without you. Well, we probably could have, but no one would have looked at our site or come to our events. So from our deepest cockles we salute you, dear readership. We have no doubt 2010 will be the year your dreams come true.

Merry Christmas one and all! We love you unconditionally.

How great is Thousand Pound Bend (http://thousandpoundbend NULL.com NULL.au/)!? It’s such a versatile venue. It feels like our home with all those couches and bedraggled furniture scattered about. Within this house of comfort and mirth we hosted our December event, presided over by none other than our old friend Stuart Geddes, one of Melbourne’s most visually articulate and clever designers from Chase & Galley (http://www NULL.chaseandgalley NULL.com/). Luckily for those who weren’t there, he’s sent us a copy of his ten tips in ten minutes, which you can download here. If it doesn’t make any sense and you’ve got questions — email us. We’ll tell you what he said to accompany the pictures. It’s only fair.

    See you in February everyone!

Who remembers this incredible hit song (http://www NULL.youtube NULL.com/watch?v=Z3JycmdhmI4)? It was the height of ’90s Australian house-techno. I suggest you open it in a new window, press play, then read the following acrostic and acrimonious garbage:

    - -

Sydney, this is a love letter–

Yes, within you we had our first event for New South Wang-alang-alang.

Don’t forget we had help to make it better,

Nefariously supported by Find Your Yang (http://findyouryang NULL.com/)-alang-alang.

Everybody who came was very good-looking,

You should be proud of your collective off-spring-aling-alang.

    - -

But! When will you see us again?

    Another time, another time.

Never trust a man named Ben,

At the event he drank too much wine.

Not really, I made that bit up,

And I did it just to rhyme.

    - -

Special thanks to Notemaker.com.au (http://notemaker NULL.com NULL.au/) for providing the beautiful Rhodia notebooks everyone received on the night — especially the one I tainted with the draft of this terrible poem.

Oh, not to mention Mel Peters, Andrea Nixon, and Cameron Hoelter for imparting their valuable advice.

Um, I just really wanted to have ‘SOUP’ as this part of the acrostic poem.

Probably shouldn’t have said that — just blew my cover. See you in Melbourne next week everyone!
